J’écris pour résister, cerné par les drones, les missiles et les bombardements. J’écris parce que ce qui se passe ici n’est pas isolé de ce qui se déploie à une échelle plus large. Ici, c’est plus intense, plus visible. Ce que nous vivons et observons ici s’inscrit dans un système plus vaste de contrôle, de domination et d’oppression à l’échelle mondiale. J’espère contribuer à la réflexion sur l’art et la culture en de tels temps, car ils restent au cœur du développement humain.   رسائلُ مِنْ فَوْقِ الأَرْضِ 9: وها هو الحدث يتكرّر من: محمّد حمدان -  مهندس رياضيات ومتمرّس في التواصل اللاعنفي والمسرح إلى: الزميلات والزملاء  والعاملات والعاملين في مجالات السياسات الثقافية والتنموية، وفي المؤسسات والمنظمات الثقافية والهيئات المانحة -اقرأ باللغة الإنجليزية- -اقرأ باللغة الفرنسية- ديباجة ها هو الحدث يتكرّر. أكتبُ هذه الرسالة وبلدي، لبنان، والمنطقة التي أنتمي إليها تتعرّضان للهجوم. أكتبها كفعل مقاومة، فيما يحيط بي هدير الطائرات المسيّرة وصوت الصواريخ ودويّ القصف. أكتب لأن ما يجري هنا ليس معزولًا عمّا يحدث عالميًّا وعلى نطاق أوسع. من هنا، نشهد على ما يجري بنوع من الوضوح والحدّة والكثافة؛ ما نعيشه ونشاهده هنا جزء لا يتجزأ من تلك المنظومة العالمية التي تحكمها السيطرة والهيمنة والقمع. آمل في هذه الرسالة أن أُسهم في النقاش الدائر حول الفنّ والثقافة في مثل هذه الأوقات، إذ إنّهما في صميم تطوّر الإنسان ومسيرته. متنقلًا ما بين منطلقات شخصيّة وجماعيّة، آمل كذلك بالإسهام في مساحة الحوار والتفكير حول معنى القوة والوضوح السياسيّ ضمن الممارسات الفنّية والثقافية. التُ...

Letters From The Ground 9: It is happening again From: Mohamad Hamdan - Engineer in Mathematics, Practitioner in Theatre, Practitioner in Nonviolent Communication To: Colleagues working across cultural and development policymaking, cultural foundations and institutions and donor bodies -Read in Arabic- -Read in French- Preface I write this letter as my country - Lebanon - and region are under attack. I write as a way to resist, surrounded by the sound of drones, missiles, and bombings. I write because what is happening here is not isolated from what is unfolding on a larger, global scale. Here, it is more intense, more visible. What we live and witness is part of a broader system of control, domination, and oppression worldwide. While we are once again facing the Israeli war machine, beyond the current political debates, our immediate attention goes to the people directly affected by the war, especially in South Lebanon, the Bekaa, and the Southern Suburbs of Beirut: those who have lost their lives and those who have lost their homes. Our concern also extends to the normalization of overwhelming force as a tool of control, and to the broader acceptance of domination, violence, and oppression. In this context, art and culture are not mere refuge or consolation; they are acts of political determination. They are tools to question power, expose injustice, and refuse submission to structures that devalue human life. When war seeks to dictate what is possible, artistic practice asserts the opposite: it creates spaces for critique, solidarity, and the imagining of alternatives to domination and fear. Letters From The Ground 8:  Organize, Resist, Love: A Letter to the Workers of the World From: Hind Hamdan To Trade unions and labour-rights organizations, To development practitioners and humanitarian workers, To all engaged workers, across the globe, To spiritual souls and light workers,   Dear ones, My letter started to write itself during the rainy days of November 2024 as we were witnessing the genocide in Gaza and the war on Lebanon becoming more brutal. A feeling of rage mixed with pain and frustration was growing in me. I had to speak up. It was through writing these words that I avoided an internal explosion. Months later, the letter is being published and still resonates with the sense of duty that was behind it initially.
